Warren and Velma Hardig
Men For Missions Executive Director
In 1970 as a successful businessman and new Christian, Warren Hardig visited OMS mission work in the country of Haiti. On a mountain trail a Haitian beggar dropped to his knees, urging Warren to make him a Christian. This God-directed event became the catalyst for Warren’s missionary commitment. Convinced of lay-witness effectiveness, he left his business in 1973 to represent Men For Missions International, the laymen’s voice of OMS International.
As Central Regional Director, Warren coordinated this laymen’s movement over a fourteen-state area for more than eight years. Organizing laymen into councils, he then accompanied them for participation and observation of OMS mission projects in Latin America, Europe, and Asia.
Following a year as U.S. director of MFMI, Warren was named International Director. Providing the leadership for worldwide MFMI activities, he is the liaison between MFMI and OMS International since 1983. Warren is also the author of one of MFMI’s best-selling books, Iron Sharpens Iron, the story of his personal journey and of key people who changed his life forever. It has been translated into Hungarian, Russian, and Spanish. Warren has contributed to the book, Effective Men’s Ministry published by the National Coalition of Men’s Ministry. The book is designed to be a “tool kit” for your church. Chapter twenty-five is titled “Life Changing Short-term Missions". Warren is also a regular contributor to the official publication of MFMI ACTION Magazine.
Since 1992, Warren and Velma have helped more than 225 people get to Russia to serve the Lord for short-term missions trips and some are still serving. Velma is an assistant to the International Director and is responsible for organizing many visas, passports, and any logistical part of a person’s trip to a foreign mission field, which Warren leads. Velma also works on foundation requests for funding of major projects. Warren and Velma also speak in many church meetings and missions conferences. Velma is especially capable of challenging the women. She also provides hospitality for many MFMI guests, and other missions guests, as well as working with the MFMI women’s auxiliary.
The Hardigs have two married children, Roger and Renee.
