Randy and Rachel Coleman
OMS Student Center/Asbury
Randall and Rachel Coleman are currently ministering as the directors of the OMS Student Center, serving the campuses of Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary. They plan to return to the Ecuador field in 2009, where they have served with OMS International since 1992. They are co-founders of SHALOM Christian Fellowship, a new church that is being launched among the professional class of Guayaquil. For three years, Randy served as Pastor of Worship of the new church; he is also professor of Missiology and Homiletics at “El Camino” Theological Seminary in Guayaquil. Rachel also served on the pastoral team of SHALOM church, where she shared preaching and teaching responsibilities and was in charge of developing the church’s systematic discipleship program. She is a professor of Biblical Languages and Old Testament at the Guayaquil seminary.
Randy and Rachel both hold undergraduate degrees from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. With his B.A. degree in Church Music and Christian Ministries, Randy went on to receive his Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1988. He has also earned a Doctor of Missiology degree from ATS.
Rachel’s B.A. degree is in Spanish and English Secondary Education. In 1986 she earned her Master’s degree in Spanish Literature and Language from the University of Kentucky. In 2001, Rachel graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary with an M.A. in Biblical Studies. During the Colemans’ homeland ministry assignment, Rachel is teaching Spanish as an adjunct professor at Asbury College.
Randy first experienced the mission field as an OMS NOW corpsman to Japan and Hong Kong in 1983. In 1988 he was an MFMI crusader to the OMS seminary in Medellín, Colombia. Rachel went to Ecuador with NOW Corps in 1981 and did her student teaching in Quito in 1983. During Randy’s three years as associate pastor in Huntington, Indiana, he continued to promote missions, taking a youth crusade to Durango, Mexico.
The Colemans have two children, Robert (20) and Rebecca (17). At the time of this writing (Oct. 06) Robert is a junior at Asbury College, majoring in History and Psychology, with a minor in Spanish. He plays on the college’s basketball team, works as co-coordinator of the intramural program, and is the editorial cartoonist for the campus newspaper. Rebecca is a senior at West Jessamine High School, but is taking most of her courses at Asbury for dual credit. She is an honor student, involved in NHS, Beta Club, and varsity basketball. She has an active interest in missions, both short- and long-term. Becca has been accepted to study at Asbury College, and hopes to pursue a degree in elementary education with an emphasis in World Languages.
