Paul and Sylvia Cummings
Church Workers/Teachers
Since 1984, Paul and Sylvia Cummings have served in Spain as missionaries with OMS International. Their multifaceted ministry includes evangelism, discipleship, music and teaching English and computers.
After four years of serving as part of a pastoral team in Motril, Paul and Sylvia went to Madrid in 1990 where they have been supervisors in the exciting Marriage Encounter program, interim camp director of the Rock of Horeb camp (Paul) and director of the English ministries (Sylvia). Paul has also developed a ministry of offering computer classes in the church. Teaching English and computer builds a bridge between the community and the church and opens doors for presenting the Gospel.
Paul is a graduate of Asbury College with degrees in psychology and music. He received his master of divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1983. Before leaving for Spain, Paul served as a youth minister in Florida for five years. Other experiences included choir directing, senior citizen ministry, Evangelism Explosion training and puppet ministry.
Sylvia graduated from Asbury College with a degree in elementary education and received her master’s degree in TESOL from Ball State University in 1999. Before joining OMS, she directed and conducted classes in a Christian preschool and taught piano. She directed a children’s choir and worked with junior church and day camp.
They have two children: Heather and Ryan. Heather is married to Matthew Johnson and they have a daughter, Elisa. Matthew is the pastor of the First UMC in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. Ryan is a graduate of Asbury College and is living and working in Spain.
