Director of International Ministries
Jonathan Morton, from the United Kingdom, joined OMS International in December 1994. After studying language for one year in Costa Rica, he was assigned to Mexico. It was during his first two years of ministry in Mexico that he met Lupita. In July 1997, they were married and have been serving together in Mexico since.
Jonathan and Lupita started the OMS Mexico Social Outreach Evangelism and Church Planting program. This is a ministry that uses social outreach tools, such as medical work, drug rehabilitation, breakfast clubs, etc. as a way to meet people at their point of need, build up friendships and trust and share Christ with them. As a result of the Social Outreach Evangelism, different churches in Mexico have experienced growth while new churches have been established and planted.
In 1999, the Mortons’ ministry main focus has been planting new churches. Through different evangelism methods, people are won to Christ, new churches are established, and local Mexican leadership is trained to effectively reach their own nation for Christ. Jonathan and Lupita are not only involved in directly planting churches, but from 1999 to 2006, they also were responsible for the overall leadership of church planting in Mexico through Every Community for Christ (ECC) ministries. Currently, they are planting a church in the Santa Monica area of Mexico City, and in the last four years, the church has grown from just a handful of people to more than 300 in regular attendance. The church has a church planting vision with various people in the church being called into full-time ministry and involved in church planting in other areas of Mexico through the work of OMS International.
On the 13th of August, Jonathan and Lupita managed to pack everything and arrived in the USA where Jonathan has begun serving as the Director of International Ministries for OMS in conjunction with the former director, Randy Spacht. Jonathan is responsible for the overall vision, strategy, personnel and programs in OMS fields throughout the world. He has specific responsibility for day to day leadership in Latin America and Europe. Lupita is investing time in becoming fluent in English as well as developing opportunities to minister with Spanish-speaking immigrants in the U.S.
