Dave and Cindy began their ministry in Hong Kong in 1975. United Christian College (UCC) was in its first year, and music and English teachers were needed. The Aufrances agreed to fill this need at UCC for a three-year short term.

At UCC, though the education department sent the students, there was complete freedom to share Christ with students in and outside the classroom. Those freedoms, the responsiveness of Hong Kong’s young people, combined with a growing sense of God’s call to career missions, led Dave and Cindy to complete a full four-year term, with an agreement to return to Hong Kong after their first home assignment.

Dave taught at UCC until 1991 when he was asked to be acting field director for a year. From 1980-1991, Dave was the coordinator for the English-speaking program, which included a group of international students representing 15 countries. It was like 15 different mission fields coming to the school. Many of these students came to know the Lord as their Savior and have now returned to their own countries, becoming witnesses for Christ in their own cultures.

Cindy taught several years at UCC until Rebecca was born in 1978 and Joshua in 1981. After that, she continued at UCC by serving as secretary for the board of directors. She was mostly a stay-at-home mom, but also worked part-time in the OMS office and assisted in many support roles. After the children reached school age, her responsibilities expanded to include field treasurer for nearly nine years. She also was the field hostess until 2003, and now continues to assist in hosting groups and short-term ministry teams in Hong Kong.

In 1991, Dave became field director. Besides handling the field administration, he has worn several other hats. He helped found International Christian School and served on the board of directors from the beginning, serving as chairman of the board since 1996. He also served on the United Christian College board since 1992, and has been Supervisor of the school since 1994.

Dave was also instrumental in pulling together the committee that eventually became the founding board of directors for United Wesleyan Graduate Institute. He has served as board chairman since the institute began and has also taught some courses in the school.

Cindy is now involved in a prayer ministry, praying and leading people through, “Steps to Freedom in Christ.” She also has been active in discipleship and teaching in an international church and in Faith Fellowship Hong Kong, a Filipino church that began in 2000.

Dave and Cindy have two children, both “made in Hong Kong.” Their daughter Rebecca is married to Ace Trask, and they reside in Columbus, Ohio. They have one son, Daniel, born in May 2004. Ace is a policeman with the Columbus Police Department, and  Rebecca works at a department store. Their son, Josh, lives in North Hollywood, CA and works in the film production industry.
