Current Ministries in India

The Evangelical Church of India (ECI) is composed of more than 2,125 local congregations that are spread over at least 10 Indian states and represent some 24 languages.

Every Community for Christ (ECC) teams have been responsible for planting more than 600 of the ECI churches. As they incorporate the lessons being learned from church-planting movements around the world, there is confidence that the teams will be even more effective. Positive results are already starting to become evident. We praise God for what he's done through our ECC teams in 2007:

  • Teams: 67
  • Paid, bi-vocational volunteers: 367
  • Decisions for Christ: 51,070
  • People in discipleship or lay-leadership training: 956
  • Churches established: 10

ECI has three formal, accredited seminaries in which degrees are granted to serve the needs of the church. The following Serampore accredited seminaries meet the needs of formal theological education for the clergy level evangelists, district and area pastors and other Christian workers for the various ECI ministries in India.

  • Allahabad Bible Seminary in Allahabad
  • Calcutta Bible Seminary in Kolkata
  • Madras Theological Seminary and College in Chennai

ECI also has numerous regional Bible schools to serve the needs of the church. These regional Bible schools meet the needs of informal theological education for the lay level evangelists, pioneer church planters and local lay leadership currently expanding the church throughout India and beyond.

OMS partners with ECI in evangelism and church planting, church growth and development, theological education and leadership training, and partnership with several other Christian agencies in support of the Evangelical Church of India. The ECI Partnership is composed of six partners, namely: the Evangelical Church of India, the Korea Evangelical Holiness Church, New Directions International, OMS International, Samaritan's Purse and Vision Trust International. The variety of partners helps the ECI address more holistic ministry needs, such as literacy, primary education and HIV/AIDS ministries.
