Current Ministries in Hong Kong

  • Hong Kong Evangelical Church (HKEC) - In 1966, the Hong Kong Evangelical Church was established by OMS International. Today, HKEC is a legally independent church conference. OMS missionaries meet regularly with and work in partnership with the HKEC. On any given Sunday, more than 2,500 attend services in 20 churches (18 in Hong Kong and two in Macau.) The HKEC members also support cross-cultural ministries.
  • International Christian School (ICS) - OMS International is one of six founding missions of ICS. ICS began as a school for a few missionaries’ children in 1992; today, it has grown to include a broad spectrum of society, with an enrollment of 950 students. OMS missionaries teach in the school and serve on the board.
  • United Christian College (UCC) founded in 1974 and United Christian College - Kowloon East (UCC - KE) founded in 2003, provide quality education to about 2,100 junior and senior high students. In addition, both schools continue to enjoy complete freedom to share the Gospel with the students and disciple those who become Christians, both inside and outside the classroom. All staff and teachers are Christians. About 10 percent of students entering UCC are Christians. Upon graduation, between 60-70 percent of UCC students say they have put their trust in Christ. UCC – KE is considered more of a private school, and so, about 50 percent of the students that enroll there are already Christians. OMS, one of the three founding organizations, provides board leadership and teachers.
  • United Wesleyan Graduate Institute (UWGI) opened in September 2001.  While OMS was the primary founder, six other denominations that share OMS’ Wesleyan heritage are also serving on the governing board. Currently, there are more than 50 students studying for advanced and undergraduate degrees. As opportunities arise, OMS also provides training for church leaders in East Asia. A significant number of UWGI students have a burden for ministering in East Asia or in overseas missionary efforts.
  • English Ministries – OMS missionaries conduct English classes in the churches of the Hong Kong Evangelical Church as a means of drawing students into contact with church members and introducing them to the churches. A church member assists the missionary and provides the bridge to the congregation by which the students can come into the church.
  • Faith Fellowship was a church founded in 2000 for Filipino domestic workers in Hong Kong. Currently, there are nearly 120,000 Filipinos working in Hong Kong, making it the largest minority group. While many of the Filipinos are open to the Gospel, the transient nature of their work (generally 2-year contracts, which can be extended) means that there is continual turnover in the church. Like students in a school, they will only be in the church a few years, so efforts are made to ground them in their faith and train them to minister to those around them before they return to their families in the Philippines or even go to other countries to work. Current plans are to adopt the “Church Multiplication” strategy and become more of an international church ministering to other minorities.
  • Every Community for Christ teams are reaching out through evangelistic campaigns, Bible studies and children's meetings to plant new churches and reach the youth of Honk Kong with the Gospel. We praise God for what he's done through our ECC teams in 2007:
